This was my Final Piece that I created during my college years.
The Concept:
I was given a simple task, to create an art piece based around the theme of Opposites. The believed one of the biggest opposites were Light and Dark, now to truly make a unique piece I thought about how I could turn this theme on it's head, people perceive Light to be good while Darkness holds monsters and evil, so I decided to think oppositely and make Light the bad guy in my concept and Darkness the good guy. My academic source would play a large role within my concept planning, I chose to research electricity as that was a big creator of light, using electricity as a basis I could possibly add a small theme of environmentalism within my concept as well. A big consumer of electricity would be China, so I decided to set my game's location in an Asian inspired town, this meant I could use Japanese and Chinese influence for my Character, Environment and Enemy designs. I wanted the gameplay concept to be stealth in which the main character would stay out of the light at all times or else it would be game over, this meant my enemies should be light based, I thought the enemies could also have theme of environmentalism so I made them to be half bug/animal and half man made object that emit light or fully man made objects. For my character I decided on an animal that enjoys staying in the dark and/or is nocturnal, I thought a cat would do the job nicely as it's eyes could glow making it easy to see against dark backgrounds, my cat character would have ninja/samurai design inspirations. The ears make a nice crescent moon shape pushing that night-time darkness feel. The colours within the piece would be mostly greyscale, other than lights, to make the lights really stand out I wanted them to have colour to clash with the greyscale.
The poster:
The poster would show all of my concept with electricity over usage, dark vs light, character, enemies and environments. The tagline is a clever twist on the game's concept and the nature of the world and the gameplay itself.
